Trouble getting to our message boards?
Posted March 31, 2001 - 8:30 AM PST by Adam Ant
I recently upgraded the message board software here at game-master.net which left some of you without access.
Basically, you’ll need to toss any old links that you had pointing directly at the forums. Following the old links will tell you the message board is unavailable.
The solution is to simply replace your old links with the links here on the main page.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

Could timing be everything?

Gamespy speaks to Lord British
Well some of you may remember Richard Garriott is. He was the founder of Origin about 20 years ago and left the company when Electronic Arts bought him out.
When Richard left Origin he was also bound by an agreement that he would not speak about or compete with EA. This agreement ends in about 7 more days. And he plans to rebuild and create something new.
But what does this matter to most UO players? Well UO was Richard's creation from Ultima to Ultima Online.
Now with this recent move by EA and Garriott's non-compete clause only days from ending this could mean the birth of a new online gaming company. Garriott has already announced plans to travel down to Austin and speak with his friends that where laid off by EA this week. They would most likely be looking for a new project to go to. Could EA have made a huge mistake at the wrong time, by laying off 85 of Origin’s employees at the same time Garriott is planning to return to the online gaming industry?
The biggest question is can Richard Garriott do it again. He was the one who made helped UO so great and he was a firm believer in the old days of UO. He did not like stat loss and things of that nature that inhibited play styles. Discuss it here

Ultima Online 2 Cancelled
Posted March 21, 2001 - 6:45 PM PST by Adam Ant
OSI's Leilo sent Stratics the following announcement:
Electronic Arts and Origin Systems have announced a plan that will increase their focus on Ultima Online and halt production of OWO: ORIGIN (UO2). The reason is simple, rather than creating OWO: ORIGIN (UO2) as a parallel world competing with UO, we've decided to put those resources into growing and improving the core offering for Ultima Online's 230,000 loyal subscribers. In the near future and with the release next week of Ultima Online: Third Dawn, players will see new lands, new creatures, and a world that is continually evolving within Ultima Online.
Then someone at Stratics commented:
I can not begin to describe how sorry I am for all the people that have been dreaming about UO2 for many months already, designers, developers and future players alike. We can only hope that all their dreams will one day come true in the game that has become such a big part of our lives...
Personally, I think this is great!
You see, I never believed for one minute that obsoleting UO was the right thing. The player community is alive and well. You just shouldn't mess with what’s working so well.
Now UOTD is exactly the right approach--an incremental upgrade path that leaves the player community intact. Yes, there will be bugs and other problems to deal with. But the very things I love most about UO are the first things you loose when starting over on a new game--Community.
No, to me this is the best news I have heard in a long, long time.
Expect new shards, new lands, new graphics and AI. Expect new monsters, the ability to customize your appearance. All the wonderful things we have always wanted from UO.
Oh, and the Veteran Rewards :)

What do you think?
Another Guildstone function broken :(
Posted March 21, 2001 - 9:07 AM PST by Adam Ant
Ok, a couple days ago I reported the titles have been dropped from the guild stone 'Roster' menu. Today I tried to declare War on our sister guild. I could locate the guild all right, but couldn't check the check-box.
I hope someone from Origin Quality Assurance is reading this and adding this to their regression tests.
Is anyone else seeing this bug?
Is it just my stone? Is it just my shard (Napa)?

What did you find?
Guildstone Roster gump broken
Posted March 19, 2001 - 1:50 PM PST by Adam Ant
Well, the Roster gump is not exactly broken, but some engineer over at Origin decided to remove the member titles from this display.
Please put it back!
I use the display of titles so that I can see at a glance the guild hierarchy, who needs a promotion, etc..
I must believe this was an oversight and that it will be returning very shortly.

Taxidermy Kits – latest update
Posted March 14, 2001 - 8:27 PM PST by Adam Ant
Taxidermy Kits will allow for players to use corpses of certain creatures to create trophy deeds, which can be used within houses to generate a wall mounted trophy.
Wow, Taxidermy kits are out! Yippy!
I mean really. Who wants an Ethereal Mount when you can have a polar bear head hanging in your living room!
Okay, okay, I’m a tiny bit bitter, but Geeze. We have the dang Rewards system done, let’s just fix the bugs!
Maybe I wouldn’t mind the Taxidermy kits so much if we could do something fun with them like mounting human heads!
Think of the market for such an item :)
Beowulf got to rip the arm off Grendel and have it mounted in the mead hall for everyone to see.
Why can’t I have a trophy room with the heads of those vile heathens that invade my home in Wind?
Seems fair.

Crazy Joe comes to Napa Valley
Posted March 6, 2001 - 5:29 PM PST by Adam Ant
Fresh off Stratics
------------------
Some of you might be asking: "Who the hell is Crazy Joe?"
Those are the ones who are already missing things from their packs. As the moderator of the Thieves Forum here on Stratics, CJ has been entertaining us with his amusing stories of stealing and looting for a while now. None of these stories were from Napa...until now.
It seems this prince of pranks has joined one of my favorite Napa Guilds - Adam Ant's, Guardians of Undead Lords.
So why should you care? Well, GuL and Lynch Mob Justice have been at war for about a week now. With Grimoire and Shame the base of many skirmishes there are a million stories of murder and mayhem.
Some of the stories are pretty funny. Check out CrazyJoe joins GUL. If you like that he has other stories L.B.S.C.
And, of course, don't forget to visit Adam's website to get the latest low down on whom has ganked whom: Adam Ant. Also, the GuL will be bringing us a full update on PvP tactics for you all to see sometime next week.

Statues Will Be Added To Ratmen Mages
Posted March 2, 2001 - 1:52 PM PST by Adam Ant
Yesterday it was reported that miniature statues would be found on only the good-aligned Pixies that live in Third Dawn's Ilshenar. However, after some discussion, the Dev Team decided to also add them to Ratmen Mages. Asked if these Ratmen would still only be located in the Ice Dungeon, Melantus shared the following with an e-mail group:
You're going to be seeing some interesting things occur with spawn very soon. I'll be sure to mention this to others, as far as the ratmen mages and where they spawn. We wouldn't want there to be a bottleneck of players trying to kill them if they only spawned in one small area.

Vendor, buy the guards a bank!
Posted March 2, 2001 - 1:49 PM PST by Adam Ant
Testing for next update
Localization and Macros Mar 1 2001 6:51PM CST
With the update of localized language support for Ultima Online: Third Dawn, the way in which speech commands work, will affect the use of certain macros. Players will no longer be able to combine long strings of speech commands to use as a single macro, such as “Vendor, tell the guards to buy me the bank.” Macros using combined speech commands may not work in all cases. To use speech commands effectively, they should be limited to the appropriate command (such as “bank” when standing inside a bank, or “vendor buy” when purchasing from a vendor.)
