A little something about Angel Island

Jade and I like to poke our heads into the forums of the other player run shards from time to time, to see what they are all about. We like to know how they run their shards, what their players are asking for, and their general philosophy on multiplayer gaming. What we find, time and time again, are two troubling trends that prevail throughout most of the "top shards":
Incentives for players to artificially bump the online averages (rewards for staying logged in on multiple accounts).
Items, skills, privileges, and other special in-game rewards available for purchase with cash "donations".
We just wanted to take this opportunity to express our promise to you, the Angel Island playerbase.
Our numbers: We're never going to ask people to stay logged in to pump up our numbers, nor are we going to wipe ban lists, and drop IP limits in order to give the appearance that more people are playing our shard than actually are.
Gaming Success For Sale: One thing that you will never see here on Angel Island, is the "everything has a price" mentality which is so prevalent on the other player run shards. We will never sell ingots, weapons, magic moments, skills, special favors, houses, special dyes, or any other in-game item or advantage. It is a core belief of ours; that you cannot be proud of a character that you have purchased. Also, and equally as important, is that it is grossly unfair to those players that don't have the money to buy their way to the top.
I guess what I'm saying here is that you can always be sure that the guy you're fighting against didn't buy his skills or weapons. If you're a smith, you never need to worry that the merchant that owns the shop next to yours will sell their goods cheaper than yours because they bought 50K ingots for $29.95.
These are core Angel Island principals, and something we will never compromise. This shard costs me $283.85 per month to operate, and that's all I will ever ask for.
This shard has never been 'for profit', and it never will be.
Player-run shards should be all about the players having fun, not all about the money like it is on EA shards. We do this because we enjoy it, and we hope you enjoy playing here.

Another Crazy Map Day coming soon!
Posted May 13, 2005 - 11:30 AM PDT by Jade
We'll be cranking up the drop rate for treasure maps on Saturday, May 14th from 2pm to 4pm and 9pm to 11pm (Pacific time zone).
This means that the monsters who drop treasure maps as loot will be dropping more than usual during the posted times.
It should be a good day to hunt, whether your prey is monsters or other players ;)
