Now bringing the noise to game-master.net...

Greetings GUL members and other readers,
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Dark Vengeance, and I am a posting junkie over on UO.com. Over the past five years, I've posted quite a bit at:
UOVault
Crossroads of Britannia
Stratics
lumthemad.net (did 1 guest editorial there, and was a board/iRC regular) - site no longer active
slownewsday.net (did 2-3 guest UO editorials there, and was a board/irc regular) - site no longer active
l33tpks.com (was a board regular, then a board mod, then the UO updater for all of 4 days, then the site was taken down within a week) - site no longer active
mmognews.com (I have done 3-4 guest UO news/editorials there)
uo.com (I am one of those grandmaster posters that spends as much time on forums as he does in-game)
Anyhow, I really have a lot of respect for Adam and GUL, and I guess he feels the same about me. We see eye-to-eye on a lot of issues (even though I'm an anti). He asked me to become a regular updater here, and I've agreed to do so at least on a temporary basis. i'm going to spew my opinions and thoughts on UO from time to time, and maybe occasionally on the MMOG industry as a whole.
I am also currently at work with a couple other people on a site of my own (can't give the domain name, as I don't know if it's registered yet). The site should be coming up within the next month or so. We are going to focus on online gaming, and put a big focus on developmental issues. My favorite part of Lum The Mad was always how he could take a news story, explain it, point out the core issue, relate it back to dev theory, and make it relevant to you no matter WHAT game you happen to play (and he did it in an entertaining way). That, in my opinion, is the height I am going to aspire to, both here, and at the new site (which I will not hype anymore....at least not until it opens).
So, I hope you will like what you see. I'll have my first little nugget of editorial goodness for you on Monday. In the meantime feel free to....
Bring the noise.
Cheers..........

OSI, in their continuing trend of going overboard when trying to 'fix' something, has decided that any use of the word rape, in any context, is now cause for the suspension or banning of your account for the first offense.
Your thoughts?
OMG! Can you believe this?

Okay, so I came here to absolutely rant about the new Name Change Service that OSI is offering us faithful players for the paltry sum of $29.00 US when I cam across this thread over on the UO.COM boards.
I'll save you some work; the thread is mostly players lambasting OSI for charging so damn much real life cash to change a flipping character name when I stumbled across this gem:
Loelle

Re: who will spend 30$ to change their name? [re: Minrath]
Did anyone here happen to look at the poll that came with the UO August Newsletter? It asked you if you owned a house online etc and then the clincher...
" If OSI could provide you a home in-game would you be willing to buy one?
Yes!
No!
Yes - as long as it's not on swamp-land! "
Now I don't know how others might interpret this but to me it seems as if OSI is considering selling placed houses.....wonder if it is for UO gold or RL cash?? It made me wonder when I first read it and really makes me wonder after reading about the name change service for RL cash.
All I can say is OMG!! Loelle, that makes total sense!
If this is true, I'm appalled!
Selling Name Change deeds for $29.00, selling UO housing for cash too? What's next:
Buy your skills to GM now for only $49.95!
I guess some marketing geek over at OSI saw what's going on over at ebay and decided that they deserve a piece of this action.
Damn it Origin! You guys need to hire me to come over there and smack some sense into you!
I could return this game to the once great adventure it was; and I would do it without all the cheesy gimmicks like florescent ponies and such. (You realize you're quickly running out of colors don't you?)
The problem is that there is no longer a gaming vision over at Origin Systems.
STOP chasing the all mighty dollar and make a compelling game for god's sake! That's how you win.
