For those that are too lazy to hit that link, let me break it down. No more dragons in Khaldun. That could quite possibly be the greatest single change to any dungeon ever. Now they just need to make it so the Revs can’t be provoked on to anything, and we have a winner. So the days of four dragons tag-teaming the bloody corpser of EVIL are over. And the angels sang, and there was much rejoicing across the land.
Note: The changes not allowing tamed animals into Khaldun has not actually taken place yet. I was premature in laughing in the face of the tamers. I apologize for this. Also it seems that Revenants can no longer be provoked or have anything provoked on them? If this is in fact now true, YAY OSI. If someone could verify this before I can get to it tonight, please e-mail me. Special thanks to Baja Resident for pointing this out.
Here is the link if you want to read the original article. ::BIG FAT JUICY GRIN::
Endowed Spell Books
Posted October 19, 2000 - 6:12 PM PDT by Adam Ant
I have been giving the bless deed reward a lot of thought.
I think we can all agree that the bless deed carries enormous value for the warrior and far less value for the mage.
A couple of weeks ago, I proposed that new ‘Bad Circle’ spells would be made available to the mages as scrolls. These scrolls could then be added to their spell books for later casting.
Today I would like to propose a different reward for mages, which I believe to be relatively straightforward to program, and on par with the perceived value these deeds have to the warrior.
Okay, basically it goes like this:
A new Spell Book (maybe called endowed), would be the reward.
It would hold spells just like a normal Spell Book, but you can also drop scrolls on it to 'charge' it.
This would work exactly like dropping Recall scrolls on the Rune Books of today, except that you are not limited to Recall scrolls.
So this 'endowed' spell book would allow you to charge it before setting out on an adventure.
Now, too many charges would be too powerful, and nobody wants that.
I asked a neighbor, and he thought 20-30 charges was about right.
50 seemed too high. I think 8-16 charges would be just fine.
The idea on limiting the charges is that you don't want the mage getting resurrected and being full power within seconds.
Anyway this is my idea.
If you like the idea, I urge you to contact OSI via email and tell them you like this idea and want it implemented. (Remember, *you* are the customer!)

Thread on UO Dev board
OMFG, this is hilarious
Posted October 17, 2000 - 5:00 AM PDT by Nieves
You just have to go SEE THIS !!!! It's the most hilarious thing I have seen in awhile.
Thank you WATTS for the entertainment this morning.
Oh, and Adam Ant, sorry we disagreed on the Siege thing. I see your points and some are valid. Still doesn't change the fact that the "spirit" of SP will probably be crashed when all the "k3wl d()()dz" start visiting. But, that's my opinion. Oh, and you can't PK me, I don't go to Wind often. Neh neh neh neh boo boo, you can't get me!
Hasta.
I want my UO 3D!

On an Ultima Online mail list, Mind of GOA
posted this very interesting bit of information.
On October 4th, Origin Systems Inc. registered the following domain names:
On May 18th, Kirk "RuneSabre" Black, just after he left the UO Live team, declared: "My future is firmly with UO. Of course I can't give you details of what the future of UO I will help bring about are, but, I can assure you its going to be very cool!".
On May 30th, Gordon "Tyrant" Walton, Vice President of Online Services and Operations of Origin, declared in an interview given to Jinx: "More people are working on it now than there were at the peak of UO:Renaissance."
On October 11th, Paul "Sage" Sage declared: "I honestly believe that the next few months will be the most exciting months ever in UO history".
A lot of rumors were floating around the fan sites since April. It looks like we will soon know the truth. I can be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that:
- A new extension to UO will be announced soon (before November 11th).
- It will be named Ultima Online: Third Dawn
- It will include a 3D client (hence the acronym UO:3D)
- A demo of this 3D client will be shown at the UO World Faire
- RuneSabre leads the project (if not as the producer as the lead programmer)
- It will be out before April 2001
The only real news here is the name of the extension. But by putting together all the informations released or leaked I think we get a better idea of what's going on.
The future of UO is slowly taking shape... :)

Siege Perilous Changes

Okay Nieves, looks like I'm gonna have to PK you!
The way I see it, the Siege changes are totally reasonable:

Death of Siege.

Siege is getting nerfed.
Some of my friends are pissed. And I quote:
::sighs:: Why OSI? Why mess with Siege? Add factions and leave it alone.
Hasta.

I want to apologize to everyone, especially Adam Ant, for not providing up to date news as promised. With the loss of my job and the inability to connect to the internet because Cable really really sucks where I live, I haven't been able to have a steady connection for more than 24 hours (if that long).
I will strive to do better.
Hasta.
Veteran Reward Delayed
Posted October 11, 2000 - 6:49 PM PDT by Adam Ant
The following was just posted to FYI on the UO.com website:
Update: UO Veteran Rewards
Over the past several weeks, we have been paying close attention to player feedback regarding the UO Veteran Rewards. While we are pleased that everyone has shown such enthusiasm over the rewards program, we have also noted many concerns regarding the uniqueness of the rewards for each level of game time. In light of these concerns, we have decided to return the Veteran Rewards program to development status while we determine, and add, additional rewards to the program.
All of the current reward options listed in In Development will remain as options, but we will be added a minimum of one new item to each reward level.
While these new items are being designed and tested, we will be focusing our testing efforts toward bringing the Faction System online.
We apologize for delaying the UO Veteran Rewards program at this late date.
However, as the program was designed specifically to reward our long-term players, we feel that it would be unacceptable to offer rewards that aren't pleasing to our players. We will update you with additional information regarding the UO Veteran Rewards program in the future.
What Maximus thinks of Angel Island
Posted October 9, 2000 - 8:31 PM PDT by Adam Ant
Hello, I Hate PKERS they SUCK!!!!
However, I feel strongly that Pkers add a major part to UO. It is very Important that there is a place like this for them that would allow some fun experinces for them. (grumbles under his breath)
Angel Island is an extrodinary Idea and sounds like a lot of fun as well. Besides I think it would be cool to get something back from the person who killed me. ( thier hard work )
Only one thing I dont like .... The name.
sounds like a place for Paladins or something.

Thanks maximus!
I couldn't have asked for a better endorsement, well unless I got one from OSI :)

Mages and the Bless deed
Posted October 2, 2000 - 8:13 PM PDT by Adam Ant
Unless you’re living in a cave, you’ve probably heard about the Rewards Program.
The Rewards program is part of OSIs way of saying thank you to all of us veteran players for staying with the game. I won’t go over the whole list of goodies here, but I will provide a link for you.
The rewards are really quite cool. I think the hands-down favorite is the Ethereal horse. This sweet little pony will never lose loyalty and can never be killed. It also goes in your backpack when not needed!
This is a real sweet three-year gift (I only wish I had three years!)
Aside from the Ethereal horse, the hands-down favorite is the sacred bless deed. Ah, this little scrap of paper is worth literally hundreds of thousands of gold!!
Why is the bless deed so darn valuable you ask?
It’s easy, if you are a warrior, you can finally take that Surpassingly Accurate Broadsword of Vanquishing out and use it!! Yes, if you use your bless deed on that sword you have been keeping locked away for fear of loosing it, it will become blessed and can never be looted!!
Yay! All is good with the world. Oops, wait a minute, what about the Mage?
Oh, that’s right. You mages can bless that $3.00 wizard’s hat or that leather tunic that can’t be repaired. :(
As sad as it is, the mage really has nothing to bless. Yes, I know there are Tank Mages out there that could bless their War Hammer, but many mages have switched over to the pure mage and therefore can’t really benefit from the bless deed (unless they sell it.).
Okay, here is what I’m proposing:
Make ‘Bad Circle’ scrolls available to the mage instead of the Bless Deed.
The idea is that you would pick, as your reward, one of several scrolls that cannot be attained any other way. You then drop the scroll on your Spell Book, and you now have a permanent, blessed spell!
Here is a first cut at the new ‘Bad Circle’ (9th) circle spells:
1. Summon Ogre Lord
2. Summon Lich Lord
3. Summon Balron
4. Summon Wrym
I kid you not! If a tamer can command a Dragon, than a GM mage should be able to command one of these babies! And I’m not talking about the watered-down summons Mages get today, I mean a full-fledged baddie.
Warriors will likely hate this proposal, as will tamers, but I say it is time to give the Mage something special. (I mean who ever said that a tamer or warrior should be on par with a mage anyway?)
Other ideas for ‘Bad Circle’ spells might be:
1. Double Strength or Double Duration Reactivate Armor.
2. Double Strength or Double Duration Protection.
3. Invulnerability. I See the Invulnerability spell working like Protection + Reactivate Armor for a short time. (Probably uses a 50 mana or something.)
4. Arch Paralyze. Paralyzes several/all nearby targets.
5. Arch Poison. Poisons several/all nearby targets.
6. Etc..
Now before all you Tamers and Warriors blow a gasket, remember, the mage is likely to only get one or two of these spells. If you are packing a Surpassingly Accurate Broadsword of Vanquishing, the mage is going to need that Double Strength or Double Duration Reactivate Armor just to compete with you.
