The promise of pwnage

!!You know I find it really disappointing that UO has changed from a “lets find a why to survive in this medieval world”, to a “lets build this months pwnage character.”
I mean Really. 4-5 years ago, it was a HUGE deal when mages could no longer med in armor. Characters had to adjust, but that was pretty much it. There were also somewhat minor changes like loosing Dex with certain pieces of armor, but you simply needed to make intelligent decisions about how you outfitted yourself, not totally reinvent your character!
Back then we all played a whole lot more… building characters was a distant second to actually playing the game.
Then there’s today… Today, the uber character isn’t the same uber character as was 3 months ago. 3 months before that, is was a different character class, and in 3 months it’s going to be a totally different character.
You all see what’s going on don’t you? It’s a never-ending treadmill OSI has put us on to distract us from the real problems with the game. We are all expected to keep collecting objects and building characters until you’ve finally realized there is no satisfying finish, no endgame, no closure.
You can no longer build an uber character and expect to retire “Lord Beowulf – Renowned Dragon Slayer”, because in 3 months your Lord Beowulf will be a simpering boob, unable to even defend himself from even the most feeble threat.
I wish OSI would quit screwing with game mechanics and focus on a fulfilling game experience. For instance, a Felucca – Trammel Trade system that required the two facets to establish a cooperative exchange of goods for the benefit of all.
Ports and shipping lanes would bustle, business men and women would pwn all, pirating and coastal security would become a huge focus for everyone (because the logs that your bowyer needs to make the truly uber bows for your PK come only from the Trammel Yew tree.)
Think of a scenario where Trammel is like England in the late 1700’s and Felucca is America…
The Trammel government is trying to tax Felucca beyond all reason by over charging for goods. Felucca fights back and wins a degree of independence!
I don’t know… I just don’t think there has been any improvement in the last 6 years, just change. Change, for the sake of change.
Hey Origin, give us a reason to play… not a reason to train :/
Have your say

I know, you're probably shocked that OSI released something that didn't work properly, right?
As hard as it probably is for you to believe, they messed this vendor publish up, and they messed it up big time.

Do Reds "Ruin" the EM Events?
Posted October 3, 2003 - 11:52 AM PDT by Jade
If you read the Stratics forums, you've seen the multiple threads demanding that reds not be able to pk at Felucca events. I think it's ridiculous that these "Royal Guards" have turned out to be such a pack of sniveling crybabies.
This may come as a shock to a lot of the people whining, but those sashes you got are supposed to be more than the newest banksitting pixel crack. They are meant to represent something. Someone who accepts the sash is accepting the responsibility of becoming a Royal Guard. The Royal Guards are supposed to be brave and noble. They are, by accepting the sash, pledging their loyalty to good and to Lord British and all that he stands for. They are agreeing that they will fight for those ideals. That's what guards do, they fight to protect whatever (or whoever) it is that they are guarding. The notion that any "royal guards" would go to their king and whine "wah wah wah it's no fair, they keep attacking me!" is....it's freaking ridiculous!
