Let me start by saying that since there is only one account allowed per person, account transfers to a player that already has an account is against our
Terms Of Service .
It is however possible that a player may leave the Angel Island Shard and give their account to someone that does not currently have an account.
Please note:When you create an Angel Island account your email address acts as the concrete identity of the Account Owner. There is really no other means of tying an account to a person given our current infrastructure. (We're not looking for suggestions here, just stating fact.)
If you
accept an account from someone, I highly recommend you strip it and delete all the characters. The reason is simple… if the person that originally created the account contacts us with a
"lost password request", (even if you've changed the password), they will be able to recapture control of that account and possibly rob you, and any houses that your characters may have access to.
Fortunately this has only happened once that I know of, and it was managed to the best of our abilities given the situation.
Our current policy is as follows -- If someone contacts us about a lost password (and they are verified as the original owner):
- If the account has not been logged in for a month or more, I will usually reset the password and give them access to the account immediately.
- If the account has been logged in recently, I will post a notice on the this public message board giving the current owner time to do whatever cleanup is necessary before I turn the account over to the original owner. (I may also try email, PM, and in game contact.)
If cannot reach the current owner within 1 week of the original owners "lost password request", the password will be reset, and the account will be returned to the original owner.
It's a messy situation and I strongly urge you not
accept accounts from anyone; because the account recipient and friends will pay the price if the original account owner comes back to claim their account via the
"lost password request".
Now I hope you all understand; AI staff cannot get into the middle of these account disputes.. there is no way we can know who is telling the truth, and there is no way we can resolve this without hurt feelings on one side or another…
So, to keep the Angel Island staff out of all account disputes, it is currently our policy that the original account owner is the account owner for all time.
Please remember this when
accepting an account.
