Selling to Vendors

NPC merchants throughout the Angel Island family of shards buy and sell a variety of goods. Whether a merchant will purchase an item depends on the type of item, where it came from, and how it was made.

How to Sell Items

Find a merchant who deals in the goods you wish to sell and say vendor sell.

If the merchant is interested in your items, a selling window will appear showing what the merchant is willing to purchase and the prices offered.

Different merchants buy different goods. For example, a tanner may purchase leather, while a blacksmith purchases metal goods.

If a merchant isn't interested in anything you're carrying, try a different type of merchant.

Goods Merchants Will Buy

Merchants generally purchase eligible goods obtained through adventuring, gathering, or crafting.

Examples include:

  • Hides and leather gathered from creatures.
  • Resources collected through mining, lumberjacking, or other gathering activities.
  • Weapons and armor recovered during adventures, where accepted by the merchant.
  • Equipment crafted by players, including equipment made using materials purchased from NPC merchants.

Crafting with purchased materials is allowed. A blacksmith may purchase ingots from a merchant, forge armor, and sell the finished armor to an appropriate vendor. A tailor may likewise purchase leather and sell armor made from it.

Normal crafting requirements, skill checks, material costs, and merchant prices still apply.

Goods Merchants Won't Buy

On Mortalis, Seasons, and Upheaval, merchants will not purchase certain goods that originated in NPC shops.

Buying an item from one merchant and selling it back to another is not a way to earn gold. Simply cutting or processing purchased goods may not make them eligible for resale.

For example:

Item Vendor buyback
Leather cut from hides obtained from creatures Accepted
Leather cut from hides purchased from an NPC Refused
Leather armor crafted using NPC-purchased leather Accepted
Bread made using flour purchased from an NPC Refused
Bread made using flour you produced yourself Accepted
Eligible armor forged from purchased ingots Accepted

The important distinction is between simple processing of shop goods and legitimate crafting.

These particular shop-goods restrictions apply to Mortalis, Seasons, and Upheaval. Other shards may have different merchant rules.

Why Won't the Merchant Buy My Items?

Merchants may refuse goods for several reasons.

Shopkeeper's Goods

A merchant may say:

I'll not pay coin for a shopkeeper's own wares, nor for what was merely cut from them.

This means the merchant has recognized goods purchased from an NPC shop, or goods produced through a restricted conversion of those purchases.

Starting Equipment

Items provided when a character is created are generally not eligible for sale to merchants.

Soul-Bound Goods

Some items are bound to a character's family and cannot be sold to NPC merchants. A merchant may explain:

Items bound to new souls hold no value to merchants.

Wrong Merchant or Ineligible Goods

If a merchant says:

You have nothing I would be interested in.

The merchant has no eligible items to purchase from you. You may be carrying goods outside that merchant's trade, items that cannot be sold, or goods subject to other restrictions.

Selling Mixed Inventories

You can still sell eligible items even when your backpack contains goods a merchant refuses.

For example, suppose you carry a leather gorget you crafted and some leather cut from hides purchased at an NPC shop.

On Mortalis, Seasons, or Upheaval, a tanner can offer to purchase the gorget while refusing the restricted leather. You do not need to remove the refused goods from your backpack before selling the eligible items.

Selling House Deeds

Architects sell house deeds but do not purchase them back.

If you wish to return a house deed, visit a Real Estate Broker instead.

Real Estate Brokers refund 80% of the applicable deed value for eligible standard and custom house deeds. The refund is deposited into your bank account.

Custom house deeds are available for purchase from Architects on shards where static housing is enabled.

Tips for Selling Successfully

  • Visit a merchant who specializes in the type of goods you're carrying.
  • Gathered resources and legitimately crafted equipment are generally better candidates for resale than goods purchased directly from NPC shops.
  • Not every crafted item is profitable. Material costs, failed crafting attempts, and merchant prices all matter.
  • If a merchant refuses an item, pay attention to the message. It may explain whether the problem is the item itself, its origin, or the merchant's trade.

The merchant economy rewards adventuring, resource gathering, and skilled craftsmanship—not simply moving goods between shopkeepers.
